What is it?

"Internet addiction is defined as an unhealthy behavior that interferes with and causes stress in one’s personal, school, and/or work life. Like other addictions, compulsive Internet usage completely dictates a person’s life. Addicts struggle to control their behavior, causing a sense of despair, leading them to dive further in their addictive pattern. After some time, addicts become dependent on cyberspace to feel normal." (UC Davis, 2019)

Why do we need to be aware?

Because the more advanced and more widespread internet access gets across the world, the more people will be affected by it. As with any addiction, the massive impact that internet addiction can cause to any individual is hard to get out of, and harder still to heal from and prevent relapsing.

The best cure for this is a simple wake-up call to the people that this is a real and serious issue, nothing to scoff at. People need to learn that setting simple times for yourself to stop using the internet and avoiding urges can save them from a lifetime of regret and serious problems that can stem from a few simple issues piling up together forming an unstoppable wave of troubles.
